Sonoma Springs Brewing Co.

WineCountryBEER

After 17 years of brewing for Goose Island, Firestone Walker and others, Tim Goeppinger, along with his wife Ann, have opened a fine little artisan brewery in the town of Sonoma. Sonoma Springs Brewing Company has picked up quite a nice following since the boutique brewery opened a few years ago.

Specializing in German and California beer styles, Sonoma Springs Brewing keeps four or five different beers available at any one time.

The brewery taproom often features some very interesting, less common brews including a Roggenbier,  a Volkbier (Kolsch), and a Summer Alt. In fall and winter months you will find fuller-flavored offerings, such as Dunkels, IPAs and dark wheat beers. A staple is their Hefeweizen wheat beer.

Some beers to look for

Estate Fresh Hop Ale -- a pale ale wet-hopped with their own farmed Mt. Hood hops. Freshest hop taste around. Seasonal.

Roggenbier -- A German-style rye beer with a spicy taste. Clean finish. Easy drinking. ABV ~ 5.5%.

Hefeweizen -- a light, cloudy Bavarian-style wheat beer with nice banana-clove aroma. Very nicely crafted.

Noma Coma India Pale Ale -- A solid West Coast styled beer with citrusy hops.

Volkbier -- A crisp hoppy light ale that mimics the Kolsch beers in the brewpubs of Cologne, Germany. Nicely done. Seasonal.

The cozy taproom is just the place hang out with a friend or fill up your growler for beer to go The German themed banners let you know you will find some German-style beers.

The taproom blackboard explains the daily offerings. Notice that you can purchase a tasting flight -- a great way to sample all SSBC beers.

Some mighty fine beers are brewed behind this unassuming little storefront on W. Napa St. in Sonoma, showing you can never judge a book by its cover.

In the rear of the building is the brewery. Notice the wine barrels that are used for aging some of the beers.

Sonoma Springs Brewing Company is located just above the map marker on W. Napa St. (Hwy 12) in Sonoma. The parking lot is visible at the left of the building. The Sonoma Public Library is across the street. (To get Google Maps to show the correct location, the street address for map input had to be set to 714 W. Napa instead of 750.)
