Craft Beer in Sonoma now better

The popular Hopmonk Tavern has its newest location in the historic wine town of Sonoma. Owned by Dean Biersch, who is also the Biersch in the Gordon Biersch Brewing Company in San Jose, It offers several house brews in addition to a great line up of other California craft beers fresh on draught.

Hopmonk expertly combines great beer, food and top quality entertainment to provide a memorable experience for all the senses. Live music performances at Hopmonk-Sonoma are free of charge.

The Sonoma tavern features three of its own Hopmonk brews among the 16 draught taps. The rest of the taps are mostly other California craft beers, including some of the very best. Additionally, you will often find a beer or two on cask from regional brewers. They keep approximately 100 bottled beer selections too, mostly Northern California micros and better imports.

Hopmonk's Own Brews

Kellerbier (abv 5.3%) A hazy golden beer with crisp, spicy hops and a fairly light pilsner-style taste. A superb warm-weather beer.

Tavern Ale (5.6%) A very approachable California-style pale ale. Easy to drink, but not lacking hops and malt. Very food friendly.

Dunkelweizen (5.2%) Really nice. Rich and spicy with great mouthfeel. Everything you could want in a dark Bavarian-style wheat beer.

Many other beers are available in 22 oz. bottles that are great for sharing. Ask to see their extensive beer menu. You will also find a very nice Sonoma-centric wine list.

Restaurant

The decor features lots of warm rich wood that lends a cozy atmosphere. The staff are professional and efficient.

You will find a menu well-balanced among small plates, salads, sandwiches and entrees. The Portabella sandwich is very tasty. The Mussels and Tavern Fries are popular. Look for the Death By Chocolate dessert to pair with a rich Imperial Stout.

Next to the indoor restaurant is a wonderful outdoor beer garden that expands the dining experience during good weather, which is most of the time.
